"Carpetbagger" from the Coats of Arms Series, 12 by 18 inches

This photographic series takes traditional coats of arms as a point of departure, and postures a suggestion, not necessarily the best, for one way to remodel culture. Each image in the Coats of Arms series represents a usually under-represented group (at left "the carpetbagger") via qualities which aren't normally associated with the pride that accompanies the symbology of heraldry. My intent is for the viewer to consider why these crests are different from the usual ones, and to ponder the following question: what is the criteria for legitimate representation?
